And just when you thought the misery of the Afghan people couldn't get any worse, add precious resources into the mix and you'll have thug nations looting them.

And to imagine we're in the 21st century.

Once ordinary Afghans realize they're being looted of their natural resources, you're going to see the Talibans grow tenfold.

For as long as I have know there was such a place as Afghanistan, thugs have been pounding the crap out of that country. I have never seen a picture of the place that did not contain rubble.

We Spend $1 Billion/Year Fighting Each al Qaeda Member in Afghanistan
http://emptywheel.firedoglake.com/2010/06/27/we-spend-1-billionyear-on-each-al-qaeda-member-in-afghanistan/

The U.S. has committed nearly 100,000 troops to the mission in Afghanistan. ABC This Week host Jake Tapper asked CIA Director Leon Panetta how big is the al Qaeda threat that the soldiers are combating:

TAPPER: How many Al Qaeda, do you think, are in Afghanistan?

PANETTA: I think the estimate on the number of Al Qaeda is actually relatively small. I think at most, we’re looking at 50 to 100, maybe less. It’s in that vicinity. There’s no question that the main location of Al Qaeda is in the tribal areas of Pakistan.

The 100,000 U.S. forces that have been tasked to dismantle the 100 or so al Qaeda members — a ratio of 1000:1 — is complicated by the fact that we are also engaged in operations going after the Taliban leadership.

US army heat-ray gun in Afghanistan
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/10646540

A newly-developed heat-ray gun that burns the skin but doesn't cause permanent injury is now with US troops in Afghanistan.

The Active Denial System (ADS) is a non-lethal weapon designed to disperse violent crowds and repel enemies.

It uses a focused invisible beam that causes an "intolerable heating sensation", but only penetrates the skin to the equivalent of three sheets of paper.

The discomfort causes whoever it's pointed at to immediately start moving away. They often scream but the US military says the chance of injury from the system is 0.1%.

Afghan resistance statement Response of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan regarding a picture published by Time magazine
http://iraqwar.mirror-world.ru/article/231452

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful.

Time magazine has recently published a picture of an Afghan women Aisha, and described her horrifying story which is connected to the Taliban under the title 'Afghan women and the return of the Taliban’.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan rejects this fabrication by the Americans, who are publishing these lies to divert attention of the people from their clear and disgraceful defeat.

This desperate propaganda by Time magazine has shown the whole world to the lengths which the world media will go to please America, even at the cost of their Journalistic integrity.

This picture published by Time magazine and the barbaric story wrongly attached to the Islamic Emirate is not only false, but publishing these images are against the morals and ethics of professional journalism. A lot of journalists worldwide have condemned this act of Time magazine and called it a crime against journalism.

As far as the story of Aisha is concerned, Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has condemned this barbaric, inhumane and unislamic act and declares that this case has never been forwarded to any court or persons of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan uses Shariate law to solve any internal or human right issues. Shariate laws promote peace and justice to the society, not hatred and cruelty.

In sacred Islamic law, cutting of human ears and noses whether the human is alive or dead is illegal and prohibited. In many hadith from Muhammad PBUH, cutting of noses, ears and lips of a dead unbeliever is prohibited, so how can the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan carry out this act especially when the person to whom it is done is alive and is a Muslim. Under Shariate law if someone carries out this heinous act, the same thing will be done to the criminal who has perpetuated this act.

We sympathize with our sister Aisha and call this atrocious act a crime against humanity and against Shariate law.

TIME Magazine’s recent depiction of a mutilated woman on its cover to illustrate “what happens if we leave Afghanistan” (without a question mark, mind you) has heated tempers on all sides of the debate over the American occupation there. As Antiwar.com’s Jeff Huber put it today,
“If [TIME editor Richard] Stengel wanted to show us what is really happening, why didn’t he run images of Taliban leaders receiving bribe money that came from the United States? Why not show pictures of President Hamid Karzai’s political machine stealing the most recent election? Why not show the heroin crop our military has been ordered not to destroy? Let’s see the innocent women and children that we have maimed and killed in the course of pursuing a war that weakens our nation’s security and is counter to our best interests.”

That woman was mutilated WHILE the U.S./NATO WERE THERE!!

10 years later, and they can't prevent this sort of thing happening. And they seem to have less control of Afghanistan than 10 years ago. What will be the situation be in another 10 years? Will we be seeing generation after generation of soldiers being sent to Afghanistan?

I'm sure all the OprahObamanoids are overly zealous over that.

They're literally fighting over desert and mud villages. If they can't win that kind of a war... just go home.

...and the person that chops off his nose will have to have his nose chopped off, and so on.

I don't think these people ever even graduated to the medieval age.
